A Strong Push for Competitive Badminton in Massachusetts

 
Over 40 years ago, competitive badminton was very popular in Massachusetts and a number of Northeast players won World Titles.  Today, three Clubs are spearheading training in competitive badminton: Boston Badminton, Marblehead Youth Badminton and Maugus Club.  Together, players from these Clubs in Massachusetts bring in more medals than any of the East Coast states in Regional and National Tournaments.

Head Coach Andy Chong’s Busy Schedule

 
As one of the rare Level 4 High Performance Coaches in the country, Coach Andy Chong is tasked with an ever busy USA Badminton schedule.  Andy was the USA Badminton National Coach of the Year twice, in 2009 and in 2011.  He has led many US Teams in international tournaments.
Fresh from his return after serving as the Head Coach for (silver medalist)  Team USA to the XVII Pan Am Badminton Championships  Team Event on Oct 8-10 in Lima, Peru, Andy Chong is again headed out, this time to Chiba, Japan for the BWF World Junior Championships on Oct 25-Nov 3.  He serves as the Head Coach for the USA Junior Team which includes Alan Shekhtman from Newton,MA.
