ALEX CHENG WINS 2ND PLACE U17 BOYS SINGLES AT THE 2012 JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL TRIALS

In recent years, he had not won a medal in national junior tournaments. Alex trained very hard for over a year.   All that training paid off as Alex placed 2nd losing 23-21 in the third game of the  championship match in U17 boy’s singles of the 2012 Junior International Trials.  He is now looking forward to competing in the 2012 Pan Am Junior Championships in Edmonton, Canada on July 25-29.

BOSTON BADMINTON WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR BOTH DIVISION A AND B AT THE 2012 YONEX-NYCB TEAM INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Boston Badminton Coach Andy Chong led the A team and Stone Cheng led the B team.  Both teams won all the team matches they played at the April 14-15 $3000 Yonex-NYCB Team Tournament at the John Bowne gym in New York.

160 juniors of various age groups are competing in a pool play format.  Playoffs begin at 5 pm on Sat, Apr 7 and all through Sunday.

Breaking News: Head Coach Andy Coach is USA BADMINTON NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR

It is a fitting tribute to an outstanding coach who serves in the Coaching Advisory Group and works with the High Performance Coaching Pool of USA Badminton.  Andy Chong, Head Coach of Boston Badminton, has been chosen as the USA Badminton National Coach of the Year.  He has and continues to be involved nationally with athlete and coach development projects.  In 2011, he served as Team USA Head Coach for the BWF World Championships in London, the Pan Am Junior Championships in Jamaica and the Sudirman Cup in China.  In awarding Andy Chong the 2011 National Coach of the Year, USA Badminton cites:

Boston Badminton-MassBad Collaboration: BADMINTON DEMONSTRATION AT LSR HIGH SCHOOL

The Team was headed by Coach Andy Chong and Massbad President Beth Sopka and assisted by Coach Pashupati Paneru and Lee Chern.  On Feb 13, they conducted demonstrations in 6 badminton classes at the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.  Badminton is one of the most popular wellness class in the school, and often has a waiting list, explains Vicky Caburian, one of the badminton teachers in the High School.

Northeast Juniors Shine in Northwest Super Regional Junior Badminton Tournament

The Northwest Super Regional Tournament held last Feb 18-20 in Seattle is one of four most heavily weighted national ranking junior badminton tournaments.
