2014 ADULT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Matches are scheduled on :
Fri, Mar 28           12 noon to 8:30 pm
Sat, Mar 29         9 am to 9 pm
Sun, Mar 30        8:30 am to 3 pm
Boston Badminton will not be available for regular play during the tournament, Fri to Sun.   Courts will become available to members and guests after the tournament on Sunday, starting from around 4 pm to 8 pm.

CHONGTIAN QIU TO JOIN BOSTON BADMINTON

                Chongtian Qiu is not new in the US. During his short stint at the International Badminton Club, NJ (Fall 2012-Spring 2013) as a player and coach, he won many titles that gave him a US National ranking of 8th in Men’s singles and 7th in Men’s Doubles.  These titles include:

Could Badminton become a mainstream High School Sport in Massachusetts?

Getting badminton as one of the sports in High Schools seemed elusive but was very much in the minds and discussion among Massbad activists for over six years, though no concrete steps were taken.   To their surprise, a student group organizing themselves into the Massachusetts High School Badminton Leaque (MHSBL  http://www.mhsbl.com/) in 2010 held the first MHSBL Open on June of 2011.  The number of participants, most of who never competed in USAB tournaments, and schools involved inspired Massbad to work together with MHSBL.  Both organizations agreed that Massbad was to organize and run an annual HS Team Championships at Boston Badminton while MHSBL was to run the individual event, a High School Open at Newton North HS.  The grassroots organizing from t Read more »

Newton North High School is the 2014 Massbad High School Team Champion

Newton North HS was in second place in two High School Team Tournaments in 2013.  This year  Newton North is the Massbad High School Team Champion.  Unlike other teams, the Champion did not have any junior who is nationally ranked.  They have three alumni (Chris Yee, Kelly Huang and Xin Yin Zhu) who coached and inspired the team to train hard; they had team spirit and they were blessed with having court time in school for regular practices.  They proved that this formula can beat star power!

2014 MASSBAD HIGH SCHOOL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Eleven HS teams are divided into 3 pools with each pool competing using the round robin format.
The top four will move on to the Division 1 semi-finals and the next four will play the Division 2 semi-finals. The Division 1 Champion shall be awarded a trophy and The Massbad High School Team Champion 26” Perpetual Cup.  Top three finishers in Division 1 and top two finishers in Division 2 shall win a trophy and badminton stuff (bags, racquets, shuttlecock, grips, Badminton Monthly).
